The County Fed's "Hollywood to the Docks" march spotlights the expiration this year of labor contracts that cover more than 350,000 unionized workers in Los Angeles county, in fields ranging from janitors to longshore workers, construction workers to teachers. Tuesday, April 15th, 9 am HOLLYWOOD TO THE DOCKS KICK-OFF RALLY: Kick-off rally for the "Hollywood to the Docks" march The ILWU will be bussing longshore workers to join the all-labor rally that kicks off the "Hollywood to the Docks" march. Thursday, April 17th, 6 pm HOLLYWOOD TO THE DOCKS ENDING RALLY: Thousands of ILWU and union workers to rally in San Pedro as the conclusion to the three-day, 28-mile "Hollywood to the Docks" march The ILWU will anchor the final leg of the County Fed's "Hollywood to the Docks" march by hosting a massive all-labor rally at Berth 87 in the Port of Los Angeles. Attendance of several thousand expected from across Los Angeles county. Speakers will include ILWU International Vice President Joseph Radisich and LA County Fed chief Maria Elena Durazo.

Sunday, April 27th, noon, 2pm, 6pm Los Angeles Harbor International Film Festival: ILWU documentary, historical exhibition as part of the 5th annual Los Angeles Harbor International Film Festival The ILWU is sponsoring the 5th annual Los Angeles Harbor International Film Festival, which runs from Thursday, April 24th through Sunday, April 27th. All films show at the historic Warner Grand theater, 638 West 6th Street, San Pedro. The 2007 film Eye of the Storm, by independent filmmaker Amie Williams, will air on the final day of the festival, known as "DocSunday." The Festival's closing reception from 2 - 4:30 pm two doors down from the Theater will feature the public premiere of a 700-square-foot historical exhibitition entitled, "The Men Along the Shore and the Legacy of 1934."
LONGSHORE DOCUMENTARY: "Eye of the Storm" (2007) by independent filmmaker Amie Williams. One-hour film shows the ILWU struggle in 2002 to win a fair contract from shippers, a fight in which shippers locked out west coast longshore workers from the docks for 10 days and President Bush invoked the Taft-Hartley act to reopen the waterfront. LONGSHORE EXHIBITION: International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) historical exhibition entitled, "The Men Along the Shore and the Legacy of 1934." Public premiere Sun., April 27th as part of Los Angeles Harbor International Film Festival. The 700-square-foot exhibit draws from hundreds of photographs, artwork, newspaper clippings and historical artifacts to depict the bloody west coast longshore strike that ultimately resulted in the October 1934 national arbitration award that established the coastwide contract now being renegotiated. "Before the union, longshoremen lived marginal lives, subjected to subsistence pay and unsafe working conditions. In 1934, all that would change," reads the full-color book accompanying the exhibit.
